Are we really saving $$$ when we get stuff left off?
I booked a vacation in Jamaica for my wife and myself. The agent told me it was all-inclusive and we would have the best time, one price, no worries, Mon! I noticed the resort offered diving and golf and I knew neither of those would be used so, I offered a trade!! My suggestion--book the expensive room in the garden area with the mini pool for the base price and I would promise not to use the golf or diving. Well that didn't work. My agent was a great guy and told me the vast offerings from the resort was to fulfill our wants and needs and we would neverbe able to do it all. So removing something was not available. He also killed the idea of the expensive room in the garden with pool. His counselling--the Caribbean ocean was far better than the tiny plunge pool and the base priced rooms overlooked the ocean and saved me a lot of money. Did I mentioned the ocean view was with the base room??
Well the trip was a big success! My agent really listened to our wants and suggested the perfect place. There were tons of things we never got to do; but, we were never bored and returned to the island twice more. As I was telling a friend of the great trip, she told me of the "great deal" cruise she and her hubby took. They too had great views, fun excursions, wonderful meals, lots of memories, and a real cheap booking price. However, her trip was pay as you go. Before they left the ship, they had drink charges, dock charges, room charges, show charges, and tipping that ended up being over $1800! Her great deal had a surprise ending.
The point is to make a relationship with professionals you trust. When asked what does an 8x10 costs, I ask where will it go and what is the purpose. I don't want to give you the "cruise ship surprise" at the end of your experience. I think as a professional, I should counsel you on your session, clothing, posing, image size and framing. I know that when you choose your images, I will spend 15 minutes to an hour at the computer retouching, resizing, and enhancing each photo. Once the images are ordered, received, inspected, and framed for hanging, we will be close to finishing.
It is often said you get what you paid for. Be cautious of the photographer offering custom sessions with the promise of 10-20 fully retouched images for a small price. You may not get what you think you are ordering. You will have the responsibility of printing, resizing, archiving and delivery of your artwork.
I love to cook but the best thing about going out is eating great food, someone else prepared, while being served, and then they cleanup!
