What about the chef cooking your meal? Do they know how to use their knife?
As a photographer from the flashbulb days, I had to learn how to load and process film. I had to understand what light does to my subject. I learned how to manipulate the light to give me the results I wanted. My learning has increased with the digital age and now I use those old tools and many more on my computer. Still, light is a key factor in making something print worthy. I am impressed with the skill of a bricklayer who can snap a brick in two with only a trowel. Or my friends John and Skip who can catch a trout from almost any body of water. When the skill is required, use a professional.
